‘Vessels’ collection
Inspiration for this collection comes from Japanese aesthetic principles – ‘wabi sabi’, embracing imperfection, impermanence and incompleteness. The weathered, cracked or softly eroded surfaces are seen as carriers of memory and use and essential qualities rather than flaws. Equally central to the work are the principles of ‘kanso’ (simplicity and omission) and ‘ma’ (negative space). Compositions are pared down to the essential. By removing the non-essential, the paintings invite slow looking and contemplation.
